Explore the Kai Tak River - Guided Tour (FULL)
Kai Tak river, previously known as Kai Tak nullah, is one of the major drainage channels in East Kowloon. In order to combat the impact of increased urbanisation and extreme weather incidents leading to heavy flooding, the Hong Kong government undertook a programme of drainage improvement works, completed in 2018. The drainage capacity of the waterway was significantly enhanced, thus mitigating flood risk along Choi Hung Road. At the same time, greening and ecological works were carried out to improve the living environment. This work has created the city’s first green urban river corridor: the features are in harmony with the surrounding area and provide a scenic leisure space for residents and the general public to enjoy.
Participants in our guided tour will learn how the nullah has been revitalised into Hong Kong’s first urban green river corridor, serving as an urban design reference for addressing climate change.
Special thanks to the government’s Drainage Services Department for leading the tour.
This event is one of the educational and training activities of the Carbon Neutral Challenge Project, funded by Bank of China (Hong Kong) and organised by KFBG and the Green Hub.
